The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team opted for a alternative strategy. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session. The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the wall. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner before the last turn on to the main straight. The veteran finished practice in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
