The January recruitment period is always a time of intense rumour and possible major transfers. A number of prominent players are being linked with moves out of their current clubs. This article explores some of the major figures that could be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the forward available, it appears an important transfer is close. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract featuring a substantial buy-out clause applicable for a short period at the start of the month. Latest reports point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his services. Other suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other targets, leaving clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to impress for Palace despite a previous move to Anfield falling through. As his deal due to run out in the close season, January is the club's final chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite sides, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. However, a winter exit remains difficult, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh forward has had starting opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Despite being the club's top scorer last season, he has begun just a small number of league games. Reports suggest the London outfit is willing to consider a transfer for the correct price, believed to be in the around forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still only 28, and with his agreement ending in the summer of 2026, he is a potential opportunity. Teams like Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the player. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran German shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following new coach Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a winter departure seems highly likely. Aston Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven English centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of being in the national World Cup. But, arranging a deal poses significant hurdles. His current club do not wish to sell him, and his alleged enormous salary render any agreement complicated. Juventus are desperate to secure the youngster to a lengthy agreement but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

This much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ side. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to make a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
